S.A.D. Fund

Our S.A.D. Fund (Sick Animal Donation Fund) needs your support more than ever as we continue to receive animals that require special veterinary care. As a no-kill shelter, we have a responsibility to provide veterinary care for animals that, with reasonable treatment, can have a good quality of life. This is a vital part of creating a community where no healthy or treatable animal is euthanized. To donate to our S.A.D. Fund, you can contact us if you would like to contribute or make an on-line donation. Below are stories of our residents who required special veterinary care.

Regina's picture Regina was found running in an open field in the middle of January 2009, one of the coldest, snowiest winters on record. She is a full grown, female German Shepherd. She was very malnourished and had almost no fur on any part of her body. A good person found her and brought her to our shelter. Even though it was very apparent she hadn't eaten in a long time, she was still a very active dog and had a very playful nature. We took her to the vet for an examination. Amazing and lucky for all of us, she was actually in good health and heartworm negative. Regina is currently at our shelter on a prescribed medication and on puppy food to help her gain weight. We expect a full recovery and know she will make someone a wonderful companion. We will post more pictures of her as she progresses.

Update from March 8, 2009

Regina's picture

Regina continues to improve each day. She is being fed puppy food to help her gain her weight back. She is still on the thin side, but no where near what she was when she came to us in January. Her fur has grown back and has covered her once bare spots. She is a very happy and playful dog. She can't wait for the day she will have her own yard and family. She still has a few more pounds to add, but she is well on her way.

Regina looks great! She is ready to find her new home. We have been feeding her lamb and rice adult food. She is a great dog. She will need someone to spend a little time with her and teach her how to interact with toys and a ball. She likes to check out her surroundings and likes to look out windows.

Update from July 2009

Regina has found her forever home. Her new family member is a retired dog trainer for the police K9 unit. We couldn't have asked for a better ending to our Regina story. Our ending is a new beginning and a second chance for Regina. Thank you all for supporting Regina. Only though your support can we help other animals like Regina.
