Fundraisers

The information below is to inform you of ongoing fundraising activities for the benefit of the Humane Society. Please check out the Events page for information about our periodic fundraisers, such as the annual Funds for Furry Friends Auction and the Walk-a-thon.

Good Search.Com

What if the Humane Society of Monroe County could earn a penny every time you searched the internet? Well, now we can! Search the web with www.goodsearch.com and a penny will go to the Humane Society. Just 200 supporters searching twice a day would raise over $1,400 without no effort and no expense! Wow! And make it even easier by clicking on the link to download the GoodSearch toolbar or the link that makes GoodSearch your homepage. So do a GOOD search and do GOOD for the Humane Society.

Dog Banks

Humane Society Dog Banks are located at numerous Monroe County businesses. Please drop in some change if you are doing business at one of these establishments.

Recycle Program for cell phones

The Humane Society accepts used cell phones in a recycling program that generates $1.00 - $5.00 for each phone we collect.

  • Bring your old phones to our shelter or admin office. We will do the rest.

  • Community Foundation of Monroe County

Two of our longtime members (who prefer to remain anonymous) have endowed a fund to benefit the Humane Society through the Community Foundation of Monroe County. This fund will augment our ongoing fundraising for day-to-day operating funds. As the endowment grows through additional donations from other supporters, the Humane Society will receive disbursements of the interest earned. The larger the fund grows, the more interest will be received each year for operating expenses and programs.

Not only is this an excellent way to ensure the future of the HSMC, but it also provides significant financial and estate advantages:

    • All gifts qualify as charitable contributions for federal tax purposes.
    • Michigan taxpayers are allowed a credit of 50% of their gift towards the Michigan income or single business tax (limits apply).
    • A gift in the form of appreciated securities enables a donor to avoid capital gains tax and the donor may take the market value of the securities as the gift value.
    • Gifts may be in the form of cash, securities, appreciated stock and real or personal property.
    • Deferred gifts may be made through life insurance, charitable remainder trusts, annuities or bequests.
    • Gifts can serve to commemorate special occasions, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, or can be made in memory of a loved one. this provides a very special way to perpetuate a loved ones love of animals.

We hope that, in addition to your present donations, you'll help to grow this very generous donation from these very special supporters who began our endowment, into a vehicle to ensure the future of the HSMC.

For information about the HSMC endowment or to donate, please call the Community Foundation of Monroe County at 734-242-1976.
